Improvement of Asthma After Administration of Pioglitazone

    We describe the case of a 71-year-old man who was being followed as an outpatient for type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and asthma. He was a past smoker with a BMI of 25.6 kg/m2. Because he had only mild wheezing at night, he was not under medical treatment for asthma. As his level of HbA1c remained between 6.6 and 6.8% under treatment with 2.5 mg glibenclamide, 30 mg pioglitazone (an insulin-sensitizing drug) was added to his treatment.
